Free Viewing of Documentary on Local Hockey Team

Make plans to join the Baltimore Banners Hockey Team for the premier of a documentary about their program, which is managed by non-profit organization The Tender Bridge and plays out of the Mimi Di Pietro Skating Center in Patterson Park, East Baltimore.

The documentary, which premiers on Sunday, July 26, from 3-4 p.m., highlights at-risk kids and their quest to play hockey in Baltimore. This is a virtual film screening of Not Just a Game – The Story of Savage, and is free of charge.

RSVP HERE to receive a link to participate, which will be sent out on the morning of July 26. The documentary is about the East Baltimore hockey team and how the program is changing the lives of many young people in Baltimore. It follows Savage, one of the team’s players, through his first season and documents his growth on and off the ice. For the players, hockey is #NotJustAGame.

The Banners play and practice on Saturdays and Sundays between 11 a.m. and noon during the winter. There is no charge for the kids who participate.

Participants range in age 7 to 20. Nearly 700 young people have been part of the program over the years at one time or another. Coaches drive the players to the rink, help them with their equipment and provide advice on and off the ice.

A panel discussion with the producers, including filmmaker Myles Banks and Tender Bridge Director, Noel Acton, will follow the screening. The film was produced by Just Stunt Productions, which was founded by videographer and producer Myles Banks.

The Tender Bridge's essential mission is closing the gap between kids who need help and the numerous available programs that provide that help but may not be effectively reaching some of Baltimore City's most at-risk children. The organization’s basic goal is to provide seriously life-challenged kids with an opportunity to feel better about themselves.
